Blissymbol Correspondence Course

In February, 1978, Charles started producing a Blissymbols Correspondence Course, after receiving a grant from the Australian Federal Schools Commission.

Unfortunately, much of the correspondence is a polemic regarding the Ontario Crippled Children's Centre and the Blissymbolics Communication Institute/Foundation. Much of the conflict is spelled out, from Charles' perspective, in the Correpondence Course. The course includes copies of letters to Charles' lawyer.

It is difficult to understand why Charles' legal issues should be part of a correspondence course. In an effort to avoid continuing that conflict I have not included those correspondence course editions that deal solely with that topic. If the issue includes items of interest - from a correspondence course perspective - and references to those legal issues then I have attempt to redact the legal portions. The one exception is the very first issue. As that issue lays out what is to follow I felt it necessary to keep the document complete.

Of particular interest to me is the presence of Blissymbol quizzes. Charles wrote quizzes for some of the issues of the correspondence course. If you mailed Charles a completed quiz he would then send you the answer sheet. The answer sheets have been included on this webpage.

Some of the issues of the Correspondence Course are issues from the Semantography Series, and others are articles written about Blissymbols, such as issue 5, which is a reprint from a Reader's Digest article. These sorts of articles are cross referenced in the Miscellaneaous Material Related to Semantography pages.

Unfortunately, there are issues missing from the correspondence course. It is highly unlikely that these will ever be found.

Finally, this was Charles' second correspondence course. The first is part of his Semantography Series, starting at issue 39. It then carries with issues 64, 65, 66, 67, and 68.
